A 6:30 PM show on a Thursday

The music starts at 6:30 PM. That is the earliest start of any date left on this tour, and on a Thursday it changes how you plan the evening.

Gates open two and a half hours before that, at 4:00 PM. The reason to care about the gap is the venue’s re-entry rule: there are no ins and outs, so the decision about when to walk through the gate is the decision about where you spend the whole evening. Arrive at 4:00 PM and you are on site for six hours or so. Arrive at 6:20 PM and you are hunting for a spot on the lawn in the dark while the first act plays.

Ty Myers is the headliner on a three act bill, so 6:30 PM is not his set time. Nobody has published when he goes on. At the one date on this tour with documented set times, music began at 6:30 PM and he played from 8:30 to 10:00 PM, and a fan who went to an April 2025 show reported him starting closer to 9:30 PM. So the honest answer is around two hours after the doors time on your ticket, give or take, and the resort’s box office on (805) 595-4000 is the place to get a real answer in the days before.

What you can and cannot bring

This venue’s list is more restrictive than most stops on the tour, and it is specific enough to be worth reading before you leave the house. Everything below comes from the resort’s own events information page.

Two of these catch people out more than the rest. The first is that purses are prohibited outright, which is unusual: plenty of clear-bag venues still wave through a small handbag, and this one does not. The second is the water rule, which reads as a contradiction until you look closely. A sealed bottle is refused; an empty reusable bottle is fine, and there is complimentary water inside to fill it.

The umbrella ban is worth a thought for a coastal evening in August. So is the resort’s own warning that both the parking area and the event are on turf that may be uneven, with proper footwear advised. That is their language, not ours, and it is the most practical sentence on their site.

Parking and getting there

Parking is on the 10th and 18th fairways, just off Avila Beach Drive, and the fee is already included in your ticket price. That is a genuinely different arrangement from other stops on this run, where parking is a separate cash payment at the gate.

There is no tailgating, and the venue is direct about the consequence: anyone drinking their own alcohol in the parking area will not be allowed into the show. If you need accessible parking, tell an attendant as you arrive and they will point you the right way.

The resort sits about three miles off Highway 101, south of San Luis Obispo and northwest of Pismo Beach. If you would rather not drive afterwards, the resort’s sister property, the Avila Village Inn, is less than a mile away and connected by a walking trail, on (805) 627-1810. There is no camping on site, though there is RV parking across the street.

Bringing kids

This date is all ages, which is not true of every stop on The Legal Tour. Children 18 and under need their own ticket and have to be with a ticketed adult, and kids aged 7 and under get in free with a paid adult. Once inside, your child has to stay with you for the whole concert. Strollers and diaper bags are both allowed, subject to search.

The 21+ restriction some fans have run into on this tour is a venue policy, applied at casino properties under gaming floor rules. It is never the artist’s, it is not uniform across the tour, and it has nothing to do with the tour’s name. “The Legal Tour” refers to Ty Myers turning 18.

Where this date sits in the run

Avila Beach is the middle night of three in a row, and the only one of the three with tickets still at the box office. He plays here on Thursday the 20th, Modesto on Friday the 21st, and Stateline, Nevada on Saturday the 22nd, with Brent Cobb and Benny G on all three bills. Modesto is the one date left on the whole tour that has sold out, so if you are choosing between them on availability alone, this is the night.

It also comes five days after the Nampa show, which closes out the northwestern leg. The two rooms are not comparable in size. Nampa’s amphitheater holds around 10,500, and Avila Beach is a small outdoor venue by any reading, though the resort does not publish a number and the third-party estimates range from 800 to 3,000.
