Most debut singles are the product of a label’s strategy. “Tie That Binds” was not. Ty Myers released it in 2023, before any label deal, as a 15-year-old on a family cattle ranch outside Austin. It went viral on TikTok, generated multiple label offers, and set the terms for everything that came after.

That sequence matters for understanding his catalog. He was not signed and then asked to make a debut. He made something and the industry came to him.

What the TikTok breakthrough actually means

TikTok has functioned as the country music discovery layer for several artists since 2021. The mechanism is the same each time: a short clip reaches a large enough audience that it registers in streaming data, which registers with labels looking at streaming dashboards. The artists who converted that attention into actual careers are a smaller group, and what they share is material that held up once listeners looked for more.

Myers had more. Rolling Stone reported that he was writing songs from age 8, and that several songs on his debut album were written around age 12. The TikTok moment was new; the catalog was not.

The Columbia Records signing

He signed with Columbia Records and RECORDS Nashville in June 2024. That deal followed the viral response to “Tie That Binds” and the subsequent period in which multiple labels were interested.

Columbia is part of Sony Music Entertainment. RECORDS Nashville is a joint Nashville country operation. It is the deal that funded the debut album The Select, which arrived in January 2025 with 16 tracks and a Gold certification.

Where the song fits now

“Tie That Binds” is on The Select, which also contains “Ends of the Earth,” the RIAA Platinum single that became his commercial breakout on country radio in 2025. It also contains “Thought It Was Love,” the other Gold-certified track on the album.

The origin story in context

One thing gets compressed in the standard TikTok-viral origin story. He was not an unknown teenager who happened to catch a break. He had been playing with his father in Texas dance halls and bars since around age 11. His uncle is Dean Sams, a founding member of Lonestar. A second uncle plays in George Strait’s Ace in the Hole Band. He had been writing songs for years before the single came out.

“Tie That Binds” made him findable to people who had no way to find him before. The thing they found had been accumulating for a long time.
